Justice Reinvestment in Pennsylvania: A Comprehensive Public Safety Plan for the Commonwealth

In January 2012, the Justice Reinvestment Working Group was created to develop a policy framework to improve public safety, reduce recidivism, and manage spending on corrections. A policy framework was created for Pennsylvania's criminal justice system with plans to help law enforcement deter crime and support victims, expand local resources to reduce recidivism, reduce costly inefficiencies in the parole process, and increase accountability and improve community corrections centers and contract facilities. The work group estimated savings of $174.5 million by 2017.
