CMS ICD-10 Transition Timeline For Small Hospitals At A Glance

The Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) released the transition timeline to help small hospitals prepare to transition from using the International Classification of Diseases (ICD)-9 code sets to the ICD-10 code sets by October 1, 2014. The ICD-9 code set has about 14,000 codes; the ICD-10 set has about 69,000 codes. The switch affects health care providers and health insurers, as well as hospitals.
