The California Developmental Centers Task Force was charged with assessing the future operating environment for state-operated residential facilities for individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities, and presenting recommendations to the legislature. CaliforniaÂ’ developmental centers were originally designed to each serve 2,500 and 3,500 individuals. In the 1960s, the system had seven facilities that served more than 10,000 individuals.
