California SB-854 Health Care Coverage: Substance Use Disorders

On January 14, 2020, California Senator James Beall introduced Senate Bill 854, an act to add Section 1374.78 to the Health and Safety Code, and to add Section 10144,42 to the Insurance Code, relating to health care coverage. Specifically, the bill would require health care service plans and health insurers that provide prescription drug benefits for the treatment of addiction disorders to place prescription medications approved by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration on the lowest cost-sharing tier of the plan or insurer's prescription drug formulary . . .
