Review and Evaluation of LD347 – An Act to Amend Insurance Coverage for Diagnosis of Autism Spectrum Disorder (January 2014)

In this analysis released January 15, 2014, the Maine Bureau of Insurance in the Department of Professional and Financial Regulation analyzed the impact of a proposed expansion of the state’s autism insurance mandate. Currently the mandate requires health plans to cover interventions for dependents up to age five. The proposal would extend coverage to dependents up to age 21. The state estimates that the expanded coverage would raise per member per month (PMPM) costs by $1.48. The estimated premium increase represents 0.4% of PMPM premiums . . .
