Second Round Head Start & Early Head Start Grantees Required To Compete For Continued Funding

In December 2011 the federal Head Start program notified 125 of the nearly 1,600 Head Start and Early Head Start grantees that their organizations did not meet quality thresholds established by the federal Office of Head Start (OHS) and that for the next funding cycle they had to participate in a competitive bidding process with other potential Head Start provider organizations. Between 2011 and 2013, all Head Start grantees will be evaluated against quality benchmarks. On January 17, 2013, OHS started the second group of competitions for Head Start grants.
