Federal Department of Justice Memorandum Of Agreement With Muscogee County, Georgia Regarding Muscogee County Jail Handling Of Inmates With Mental Illness
On January 21, 2015, the federal Department of Justice (DOJ) announced it had reached an agreement with the City of Columbus, Georgia, that will address treatment of inmates with serious mental illness (SMI) at the Muscogee County Jail. The agreement is part of 1999 consent decree that requires the city and county to reform its mental health system.
