Researchers with the federal Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality analyzed the Household Component of the Medical Expenditure Panel Survey for the 2007 to 2009 period. An annual average of 8.6% of U.S. young adults ages 18-26 (about 3.2 million persons) received treatment for mental health disorders in 2007-2009, with 5.4% receiving ambulatory care and 2.8% receiving prescription medications during this period. The report does not split out the type of care received by diagnosis.
