A statistical brief that shows health care expenses representing payments to hospitals, physicians and other health care providers. Expense estimates include amounts paid by individuals, private insurance, Medicare, Medicaid, SCHIP and other payment sources. Information in this brief is based on data collected in the Medical Expenditure Panel Survey. In 2009, $1,26 trillion was paid for health care received by the US. civilian noninstitutionalized population across various categories.
