Bureau of Prisons: Eligibility and Capacity Impact Use of Flexibilities to Reduce Inmates’ Time in Prison (GAO-12-320)
In February 2012, the Government Accountability Office (GAO) released a report on the Bureau of Prisons (BOP) and reductions in the length of time inmates spend in prison. The report found that the BOP is operating at 38% over capacity, and that BOP does not know how much it costs its community corrections contractors to provide home detention services.
