Assessing Payment Adequacy: Skilled Nursing Facility Services

At its January 12, 2012, meeting, the Medicare Payment Advisory Commission (MedPac) assessed the payment adequacy of skilled nursing facility services including providers, users, and Medicare spending. The commissioners' recommendation include rebasing Medicare payments beginning 2014 and implementing rehospitalization policy which cuts payments to skilled nursing facilities with high risk-adjusted rehospitalization rates for Medicare covered stays.
