Spring 2008 These are findings from a study by Kenneth Mitchell, Ph.D. and Philip Bruen, both of Unum US, a division of the Unum Group. The study results were presented in 2008 at the Disability Management Employer Coalition Behavioral Health Conference and at the Benefits Management Forum & Expo. The Unum team of researchers and clinicians reviewed closed claims from 2001 to 2005; of the total 25,640 claims reviewed, 20,493 were for short-term disability and 5,147 were for long-term disability.
