Virginia Inspector General Review Of Virginia Department Of Behavioral Health & Developmental Services Discharge Assistance Program Performance
The report is a performance review of the discharge assistance program administered by the Virginia Department of Behavioral Health and Developmental Services (DBHDS). In 2012, the Office of the State Inspector General (OSIG) for DBHDS found that about 13% of the state-run behavioral health beds were operated by individuals determined to be discharge ready. At the same time, other individuals with mental illness needing inpatient care were denied admission because some facilities were at capacity.
