Disability Characteristics of Income-Based Government Assistance Recipients in the United States: 2011

In this report released by the U.S.Census Bureau, researchers analyzed data from the 2011 American Community Survey. Public assistance includes cash assistance, in-kind assistance (which includes services, goods, or vouchers), or both cash and in-kind assistance. Presences of a disability was established by a “yes” response to questions about difficulty over the past year performing activities of daily living (bathing, dressing, mobility, toileting, and eating) or instrumental activities of daily living (such as, shopping, meal preparation, running errands, handling finances). Those answering “yes” were asked to indicate the severity of the disability.
