The Northwestern Juvenile Project (NJP) is a large-scale longitudinal study that investigates the mental health needs and long-term outcomes of youth detained in the juvenile justice system. It includes a randomly selected sample of 1,829 youth (1,172 males and 657 females) between the ages of 10 and 18 years old who were arrested and detained in Cook County, Illinois, between 1995 and 1998.
