Mental Health Challenges & Recommendations Richmond Criminal Justice System

January 31, 2008 The City of Richmond, Virginia is considering a Jail Services Project (JSP) to provide mental health and support services to people with mental illness who are involved with the city's criminal justice system. The projected annual cost of the JSP is about $2.7 million. It would be funded by state and local funding opportunities. The JSP will provide comprehensive services from pretrial to reentry; services will include specialized psychiatric care to about 400 to 600 inmates annually.
