CMS Special Focus Facility Initiative & List of Targeted Facilities

February 12, 2008 The federal Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) says Special Focus Facilities (SSF) are nursing homes that have failed to improve significantly after being given opportunity to do so. There are currently about 131 SFFs on the list. CMS expects that about half of the nursing homes identified as SFFs will be able to improve their quality of care within 24 to 30 months, and that about 16% will be terminated from Medicare and Medicaid. In the summer of 2008, CMS will provide information on methods by which SFFs may access additional technical assistance to help . . .
