March 2006 The Autism Phenome Project The University of California Davis Medical Investigation of Neurodevelopmental Disorders (M.I.N.D.) Institute has begun a multidisciplinary, longitudinal study of 1,800 children aged 2-4 years old in order to assess the causes and subtypes of autism. The subjects will be divided into three groups: 900 with autism, 450 with developmental delay, and a control group of 450 who are developing typically. Each subject will undergo a thorough medical evaluation as well as specific analyses of their immune systems, brain structures and functions, genetics, environmental exposures, and blood proteins.
