Categories of Disability Under IDEA

In March 2012, the the National Dissemination Center for Children with Disabilities published a report outlining the qualifications and categories for the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act. The report discusses: 1) Who is eligible for services; 2) Age restrictions and limitations per group; and 3) defines the 13 different disability categories: autism,  deaf-blindness, deafness, emotional disturbance, hearing impairment, intellectual disability, multiple disabilities, other health impairment, specific learning disability, speech or language impairment, traumatic brain injury, and visual impairment including blindness.
