Nebraska LB954 Of 2016: To Change Provisions Relating To Access To Records For And Investigations By The Inspector General Of Nebraska Child Welfare

On March 1, 2016, the Nebraska legislature passed a bill to settle a dispute between state agencies about oversight of the state’s juvenile justice system. The bill forces a compromise between the court system and the recently created Inspector General for Child Welfare. The inspector general is responsible for investigating complaints from families and youth about how cases are handled or about probation officers. However, the court system had been denying the inspector general access to court records needed for investigations.
