February 2009 This IRS survey shows that chief executive officers (CEOs) of not-for-profit hospitals earned an average of $490,431 in total compensation. Within a group of 20 non-profit hospitals with the highest CEO compensation rates, the average total compensation was $1.4 million; the median compensation was $1.3 million.
