Kansas Supreme Court Opinion in Gannon, et al., v. State of Kansas

The ruling concerned the lawsuit Gannon, et al., v. State of Kansas. The plaintiff school districts claimed that the state had failed to comply with a 2005 Kansas Supreme Court order to increase school base funding. In 2010, the legislature cut education funding. On March 7, 2014, the Kansas State Supreme Court ordered the state legislature to correct school funding disparities between school districts by July 1, 2014. Disparities between rich and poor school districts created by the current school funding formula violate the state’s Constitution . . .
