The researchers analyzed data from the 2007 and the 2011-12 National Survey of Children’s Health (NSCH), which asks parents if they had ever been told that their children had an autism spectrum disorder (ASD). The analysis revealed that in 2012, 2% of children in the United States between the ages of 6 and 17 had been diagnosed with ASD; the resulting prevalence translates to one in every 50 school age children.
