Mississippi Telemedicine Legislation Senate Bill 2209 Of 2013

Mississippi Senate Bill 2209 requires all health insurance plans, including Medicaid and state employee plans, to reimburse for telemedicine services. Health care professionals licensed in Mississippi can prescribe, dispense, or administer drugs or medical supplies, or provide treatment recommendations to a patient after having performed an exam of the patient either in-person or using telemedicine technologies permitting a real-time consultation. Telemedicine is defined as including interactive audio, video, or other electronic media; consultations must be done in real-time. The law goes into effect July 1, 2013.
