The report was prepared by the U.S. Department of Education, and released on April 14, 2015. The statistics were pulled from the National Institute for Early Education Research State Preschool Yearbook, which includes enrollment information for the 2012-2013 school year for state preschool programs, Head Start programs, and special education preschool programs. The data source does not include data on enrollment in privately funded or locally funded preschool programs.
