Use of Medication Prescribed for Emotional or Behavioral Difficulties Among Children Aged 6–17 Years in the United States, 2011–2012
The report was released April 15, 2014 by researchers affiliated with the U.S. National Center for Health Statistics. For this report, the researchers analyzed data from the 2011-2012 National Health Interview Survey (NHIS), to describe the sociodemographic characteristics of non-institutionalized, school-age children in the civilian population prescribed or taking medication during the past six months for an emotional or behavioral difficulty. They found that about 3.8 million (7.5%) of the approximately 50 million children in the United States between the ages of six and 17 took at least one medication for emotional or behavioral . . .
