Arkansas Act 1498 Of 2013 To Create The Health Care Independence Act Of 2013

The Arkansas Health Care Independence Act of 2013, (now Act 1498) became effective when it was signed into law on April 23, 2013. The provisions allow the state to expand Medicaid to low-income childless adults. The Act establishes the Health Care Independence Program in which nearly all traditional Medicaid beneficiaries and all beneficiaries in the expansion population will enroll in a commercial health plan purchased through the state's health insurance exchange. The state Department of Human Services will create and administer the program, and will use Medicaid funds to pay premiums and cost sharing subsidies . . .
