Shelby County Tennessee Investigation Findings With Department Of Justice To Improve Juvenile Justice System

On April 26, 2012, the United States Department of Justice released findings of an investigation of the Shelby County, Tennessee Juvenile Court. The investigation found deficiencies in constitutionally required due process, equal protection to children appearing for delinquency proceedings, and constitutional violations in the detention facility. The initial investigation began in August of 2009 and was conducted by the Special Litigation Section of the Civil Rights Division under provisions of the Violent Crime Control and Law Enforcement Act of 1994.
