In April 2012, the Bureau of Justice Statistics released a report on jails and jail inmates. The report describes annual changes in jail population and patterns of change from 2000 through 2011. It provides estimates of admissions to jails, details the volume of movement among the jail population, and presents the distribution of jail inmates by sex, race, and Hispanic origin.
