2007 CMS Decision Memo For Vagus Nerve Stimulation Therapy

May 13, 2007 The Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services’ (CMS) memo ruled that Cyberonics, Inc.’s Vagus Nerve Stimulation (VNS) depression therapy system is not covered by Medicare reimbursement. The implantable VNS is already sold by the company for the treatment of people with refractory epilepsy, and approval was sought for treatment of resistant depression, as well.
