This March 2013 brief from the National Technical Assistance and Research Leadership Center provides recommendations on how doctors can help aging or disabled workers to stay employed after illness or the onset of an age-related health condition. Authors Maria Heidkamp and Jennifer Christian, M.D., M.P.H. report that by 2020, 25% of the total labor force will be age 55 or older, and give suggestions on a work disability prevention model, and recommendations on how doctors can encourage patients to return to work.
