Chicago Teachers Union v. U.S. Department Of Education & Chicago Board Of Education

The complaint was filed on May 19, 2020. The Chicago Teachers Union (CTU) sued the federal Department of Education and the Chicago Board of Education over short timelines for revising student Individualized Education Plans (IEPs) after Chicago Public Schools transitioned to distance learning. CTU alleges that special education teachers were given only six weeks to update about 66,000 special education plans to account for remote learning. The requirement affects IEPs for about 56,000 students, and another estimated 10,000 students with Section 504 plans. The teachers say the requirement is “physically impossible” to meet within six weeks . . .
