In this fact sheet released May 30, 2014, the Administration for Children and Families, Office of Refugee Resettlement, (ORR) Unaccompanied Alien Child Program provided an overview of an inter-agency effort to address a humanitarian crisis due to an influx in the number of unaccompanied, undocumented children entering the United States at the southern border. Before 2012, there were from 7,000 to 8,000 such children annually.
