2013 Medicare Trustees Report
May 31, 2013
The Medicare Board of Trustees submitted its annual report to Congress. The trustees analysis found that Medicares hospital insurance trust fund will be depleted in 2026, which is a two-year improvement from previous projections. This depletion date shows that the fund is not adequately financed over the next 10 years. The trustees issued a Medicare funding warning to Congress for the eighth consecutive year, in compliance with federal law. The law directs the President to submit proposed legislation to Congress to respond to the warning.
