Interim Final Rule: Medicaid Program; Community Engagement Requirement For Certain Individuals
The interim final rule was released on June 1, 2026, by the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services. It presents federal expectations for how state Medicaid programs will implment a new requirement that able-bodied Medicaid beneficiaries in the expansion population must work or participate in community engagement activities for 80 hours per month in order to be eligible for Medicaid. The rule defines qualifying community engagement activities, and health conditions or life circumstances that would exempt the individual from complying with the Medicaid work rules.
