On June 4, 2012, Ohio state senator Dave Burke introduced legislation to standardize and clarify the states civil commitment standard to ensure that judges understand that civil commitment is not limited to inpatient hospitalization, but can also include a range of community-based outpatient services. The legislation, Senate Bill (SB) 350, also sets a new objective standard for determining the appropriateness of civil commitment.
