The Department of Housing and Urban Development’s (HUD) statement provides information about the Supreme Court’s ruling in the 1999 Olmstead v. L.C. case, clarifies how recipients of federal financial assistance from HUD can assist state and local Olmstead efforts, and encourages housing providers to support Olmstead implementation. HUD stresses the need for affordable, integrated housing opportunities where people with disabilities can live and interact with people without disabilities, while still receiving the health care and long-term services and supports they need.
