VHA Directive 1161: Productivity And Staffing In Outpatient Clinical Encounters For Mental Health Providers

On June 7, 2013 the Veterans Health Administration (VHA) issued a new VHA directive for policy on reporting outpatient provider productivity based on outpatient clinical encounters for all psychiatrists and psychologists, as well as for those advanced practice nurses, social workers, and physician assistants who work in mental health settings. The directive builds on research conducted within VHA of mental health productivity during fiscal years 2007 and 2008 using workload and provider data from national electronic sources. Mean and median Work Relative Value Units (wRVU) by discipline for outpatient care in fiscal year 2011 are included.
