Assessment of Services for Individuals With Autism Spectrum Disorders in Virginia

June 8, 2009 The researchers sought to review Virginias current service delivery system for autism spectrum disorders (ASD) services and identify areas of improvement within the current system. They reviewed literature on ASD and best practices and visited early intervention programs, schools, regional special educational programs, vocational rehabilitation, field offices, and Centers for Independent Living. The researchers also interviewed relevant state agencies and surveyed 600 individuals with ASDs or their caregivers, 436 Virginia public schools, and 27 criminal justice academies that train law enforcement personnel . . .
