NYSED Observations & Findings of Out-Of-State Program Visitation Judge Rotenberg Educational Center
June 15, 2006 The New York State Education Department (NYSED) conducted a planned site visit in April 2006 and an unannounced visit in May 2006, with the goal of reviewing the behavioral intervention program used by Judge Rotenberg Center. NYSED sought to understand the scope of the behavior intervention plans; identify health and safety issues related to the use of aversive interventions; identify the general standard for implementing and monitoring students' behavioral plans; and determine if the interventions were commensurate with the level of behavioral difficulties the students exhibited.
