National Hospital Discharge Survey: 2005 Annual Summary With Detailed Diagnosis & Procedure Data
December 2007 The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention release an annual report of hospital discharges. In this survey of 2005 data, the most recent available, of the top ten diagnoses associated with hospitalization, psychoses ranked fourth, ahead of childbirth. There were 4.2 million hospitalizations for psychosis. Of those, 1.7 million were due to a primary diagnosis of psychosis such as schizophrenic disorders (586,000) or major depressive disorder (653,000).
