Investigation Of Missouri’s Use Of Nursing Facilities & Guardianship For Adults With Mental Health Disabilities
On June 18, 2024, the federal Department of Justice (DOJ) released this investigation report on Missiouri's use of nursing facilities and guardianship for adults with mental health disabilities. The DOJ opened the investigation in November 2022 after recieving a complaint that the state unnecessarily institutionalizes adults with mental disabilities in violation of the Americans with Disabilities Act. The investigators reviewed state documents and data, including individual treatment records for a sample of adults with mental disabilities living in nursing facilities.
