Financial Characteristics Of Approved Applicants And Methods Used To Reduce Assets To Qualify For Nursing Home Coverage
In this report released on June 23, 2014, the Government Accountability Office (GAO) provided information on the extent to which individuals may be using currently legal methods to reduce their countable assets to qualify for Medicaid nursing home care. The GAO reviewed a random, but non-generalizable sample of 350 Medicaid applications for nursing home coverage submitted during 2012 by applicants in selected counties of Florida, New York, and South Carolina.
