On June 24, 2014, the U.S. Department of Education (ED) announced it had implemented Results-Driven Accountability (RDA), a new approach for monitoring the effectiveness of state special education programs based on academic progress. For the 2013-2014 school year effectiveness determinations, ED included student’s educational results in addition to state and school compliance with procedural requirements, which are already considered in determinations of state compliance with the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA).
