Currently, according to Senator Hardiman's office, private agencies provide 40% of foster care and juvenile justice services in the state. SB 232 will increase the percentage of services provided by community-based agencies to 60%. Under Senate Bill (SB) 232, licensed non-profit nationally accredited agencies would handle 60% of foster care and juvenile justice services and the Michigan Department of Human Services (DHS) would shift from providing direct services to providing oversight, licensure, monitoring, and coordination of children . . .
