Allegheny County Comptroller Taxpayer Alert: Property Tax Exemptions Cost County Millions

The Allegheny County controller’s report discusses how much property in the county is exempt from paying property tax because it is held by non-profit charities. Property taxes are the main source of revenue for counties, municipalities, and school districts. A recent decision by the Pennsylvania Supreme Court changed the defiinition of a property tax-exempt owned by purely public charity. The controller recommended that the county reveiew all properties in the county that property exempt from property tax.
