S.S. et al., v. City of Springfield, Massachusetts, et al.

On June 30, 2014, a student and parent in Springfield, Massachusetts, and  sued the school district and the city alleging that Springfield Public Schools violates the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) by segregating students with mental health needs at the district’s Public Day School. They alleged that the Public Day School does not provide a therapeutic learning environment; rather the focus is on behavior control via a variety of methods, including physical restraint, isolation, and repeated arrests and suspensions, even for minor offenses . . .
