The Five Most Costly Conditions, 1996 & 2006: Estimates for the U.S. Civilian Non-institutionalized Population
July 15, 2009 According to the Federal Agency for Health Care Research and Quality, the five medical conditions that ranked highest in terms of direct medical spending in 1996 and 2006 were: heart conditions, cancer, trauma-related disorders, mental disorders, and asthma. Rapidly increasing medical expenditures were highest for mental disorders and trauma-related disorders between 1996 and 2006. People accounting for the expenditures for mental disorders nearly doubled from 19.3 million to 36.2 million. Download the Report . . .
