Social Security Administration Emergency Message: Supplemental Security Income Applications For Disabled Youth Transitioning Out Of Foster Care

On July 18, 2016, the Social Security Administration sent out this instruction notice to its staff regarding a change to processing Supplemental Security Income (SSI) Applications for Disabled Youth Transitioning out of Foster Care. The notice provides information about a one-year nationwide pilot of a policy change to allow youth with disabilities in foster care to apply for SSI up to 180 days before they transition out of foster care.
