Georgia Composite Board of Medical Examiners Proposed Rule on Unprofessional Conduct Regarding Care Provided Via Electronic Or Other Means
July 19, 2012
The Georgia Composite Medical Board promulgated the proposed rule in July 2012 stating that it is unprofessional conduct for a licensed physician to provide treatment or consultation recommendations through electronic or other means unless the physician has performed a physical examination of the patient. The Board indicated that the requirement was needed in order to ensure that a nurse practitioner or physician assistant is supervised by a physician who knows how to use telemedicine technology. In Georgia, physicians are not permitted to delegate any care they are not licensed to provide themselves.
